Wands, staves, rods and other implements are generally made with a core and/or tip of a crystal bonded with an elementai.
Depending on the era, many magicians find traditional wands, staves, or rods made out of old fashioned wood to be quaint and obsolete. In more recent times, it has been popular to incorporate elementai crystals into such objects as spellpens and spellswords, which can have multiple combined uses.
One of the most powerful magical items however is a spellbook. Unlike the traditional folklore of a book full of completed spells ready to be thrown about, an actual spellbook begins as a book of blank pages. The magical power of the book comes from an elementai that has been bound to it with the capacity to grant any wishes or commands that are written or drawn in the spellbook. Thus, spellbooks are known to be especially powerful in the hands of competent writers or artists with exceptional imaginations. In addition, a spellbook with a potent enough elementai can often write or communicate back to the spellauthor, which in practice makes a spellbook not unlike a kind of magic paper-based computer terminal in terms of functionality. Spellbooks are especially potent in combination with spellpens, which can augment their effectiveness.
Most magical items with bonded or contracted elementai allow for telepathic communication with the elementai only while physically touching or holding the magical item.
