Calbion is a fantasy world created for use as a campaign setting for the pen and paper role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. The authors of Calbion are in no way related to Wizards or the makers of any other D&D campaign setting, the D20 system, or any other role-playing system.
Calbion is inspired by a wide variety of prior works of fantasy, ranging from classics like the Lord of the Rings, to recent Japanese animation, so I don’t pretend that the story of this world is entirely original. Much homage has been paid to my various sources of inspiration. What I hope though, is to create an immersive, deep universe from which one can develop one’s own campaign out of.
This campaign setting was written mostly by myself, originally for use in Ben Carver’s D&D campaign, starting in 2006. It was subsequently modified for Shawn Drape’s D&D war campaign, slated to begin in late 2007. The input from Ben and Shawn was absolutely essential to the making of this campaign setting, without which none of this would be possible. I’d also like to thank Graeme Hill, Bonnie Mackenzie, Caitlyn Andrews, Steven J. Montague, Jessica Ip, Paul Bernhardt, Ahbi Rampure, and Lisa Lowndes for providing inspiration for this project.
On a further note, most of the really awesome artwork that has been thrown in to this guide is not ours. Most of them come from various Magic Cards and Video Games by a wide variety of people that I found via Google Image search. All works are copyright by their respective creators and are being used under Fair Use.
Not for sale or rent. If you paid for this, you’ve clearly been had!
Letter From The Author
Dear Reader,
Greetings and salutations. I take it that you would be a humble traveler or adventurer in search of fame or fortune. For, why else would you seek the advice of this guide? Well, rest assured you have placed your faith wisely, for I have traveled the world a great many years and seen all there is to see under the moons of Calbion. Enclosed in these bindings are a detailed summary of what you need to know about the various nations, locals, histories, religions, significant personages, and general advice for traveling across the vast continent.
Calbion is a world of conflicting empires and ideologies, a place where adventure is only a moments breath away. It is a world in which religion is taken seriously, where celestials and fiends engage in a war by proxy. It is a world in which any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology, except perhaps that the laws and limits of natural physics need not apply. Everywhere you go, there are stories to tell, legends to study, mysteries to unravel. I have done my best to provide you with as much wisdom as I have been able to garner from many decades of travels, and though I cannot be certain that everything in here is absolutely accurate, I can assure you that I have done my best to put what is closest to the truth as I, a humble former itinerate cleric and adventurer, can possibly find.
Regrettably, most of my journeys have taken me through Northland in detail, however I have been unable to reach much of the Southland, nor have I been able to navigate the Eastsea or Westsea. Thus, I must confess that this guide is far from a complete guide to Calbion.
If you should need lodging, healing, or refuge from pursuers, be certain that my humble abode in northwest Alanista is ever at your service.
