Vandoria

Once part of the greater Dorian Empire, this pseudo-empire has long held intentions to reunite Doria and conquer the world for glory and honour. It was founded by the last general of the Northern Dorian Expeditionary Force, which returned too late to save the Dorian Empire from collapse.

General Torcien Vandorius the VI (LE male human, aristocrat 1/fighter 5/marshal 6) is the Proconsul for the Reunification of the Dorian Empire.

The country is essentially a military dictatorship made up of the descendants of the Northern Expeditionary Force, and is run like one massive army. This has proved to be quite beneficial for the rest of the region surprisingly, as Vandoria is constantly under pressure from the orc warlord tribes to the north. The country has become a sort of buffer for the rest of the continent, and kept the encroaching goblinoid hordes from advancing further. Let’s hope the orcs never disappear though, as Vandoria would most certainly look southward if it didn’t have to fend off such constant attacks.

General Vandorius has made clear in the past he plans to invade Tesdoria, Keldoria, and Xenodoria the moment he has the opportunity to do so, and attempt to create a Neo-Dorian Empire.

Industries

The overwhelmingly militarized society is constantly on a war-footing, mining iron and making weapons to keep pace with the high turnover rate among soldiers.

Life and Society

The entire country is run along military traditions. Even menial labourers are given ranks and training for war, and just about anyone could be called to fight at any time. Society runs like clockwork, with military precision being highly regarded.

Government and Politics

General Vandorius commands the Northern Command, the defacto government of Vandoria. His rule is absolute, and dissent is met with the standard penalty for dissertion, execution.

Arguably the only force with any independence from the Northern Command are the agents of the Mages Guild, who essentially have complete freedom to practice their magics throughout Vandoria and Tesdoria. The tentative peace between the military and the magisters is kept by the infamous and powerful wizard, Xqrt (NG male elf, wizard 5/mage of the arcane order 10). Xqrt, whose name is said to be the goblin word for ‘elf’ (though you would never say that to his face), concerns himself with the overarching goal of one day reuniting the Dorian Empire, and seeks to reconcile the separated states. Leading a powerful political faction known as the Rebuilders, he has enemies in both the Northern Command and the Mages Guild.

Power Groups

The officer corps of Vandoria is essentially the nobility. Following the traditions of the Dorian Empire, positions of influence are based on House prestige.

Religion

The patron deity of the elves and the Dorian Empire of old is still served here, though more out of tradition than anything else.

Major Settlements / Important Sites

Langresier: Once the northernmost military outpost of the Dorian Empire, Langresier has grown to become a massive fortress city.

Torcien’s Line: This massive fortified stone wall encompasses the northern border of Vandoria. Guarded at all times by the bulk of Vandoria’s northern army, it represents the main reason why the orcs of Keldoria have yet to encroach further south.

Adventuring In Vandoria

As a militaristic society based on the Dorian Imperial Army, the people here are very annoyed by lateness. As per tradition, dueling follows the ancient Elven conventions, and can be a means of rising through the ranks. Beware of picking a fight, because even the shopkeeper knows how to fight, or at least soldier around and follow the orders of someone more skilled.
