In the beginning a being so old he is known only as the Creator or Timeless One, brought the universe into being. First he made time flow, then he made a realm without matter, called Heaven or Paradise. In this realm, he created the spirits and the entities of light known as angels. At first, the universe was perfect and no evil existed anywhere. But then, the Regent of Heaven, the greatest and most powerful of the Archangels decided in his arrogance to overthrow the creator and takeover everything. In the ensuing conflict, for the first time ever, beings of life died or were killed, and evil entered into all the realms.
Although the former regent of heaven was defeated by those loyal to the creator, his actions created imperfections in the universe that had never been seen before. Everything outside of the realm of paradise had become the essence of Chaos. To bring order and peace to the chaos, the creator made the Elemental Powers to control the forces in disorder. Light, Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Thunder, and Darkness, were all eventually brought into being, thought at first there was only Light and Darkness. Over time, these elements were used by the Creator to produce the realm of the physical.
Somewhere in the vast expanses of the physical realms, a world known as Earth was formed. On the Earth the Creator intertwined the power of the spirit with the powers of the elements to produce a force that could be influenced and controlled by beings of intelligence. This powerful force became known as Magic. After the Earth had been formed, life was added to the world. At first these were simple and unintelligent plants and animals, but soon more advanced beings were created.
The elves were one of the first made. They had a keen understanding of nature and the magic elementals of the world. As such they became great users of magic who influenced greatly the world. But many of them were corrupted by the powers of magic, so the creator made other races. The dwarves lacked the corrupting magic and for a while seemed pure. But then they were drawn in by the greed of gold and material things. Many others were created, but all had fallacies that caused them to fall out of favour.
Then, one day Humans were created. These relatively short-lived beings were full of ambition and at first seemed promising. However, it was found that many of these people were easily susceptible to temptations. In the end, Humans proved little better than any of the others. However, the creator was not willing to give up so easily, and he knew that much of the problem came from the evil that was caused by the fallen ones who had so long ago rebelled and created chaos.
Thus the world became divided between peoples of Light, who sided with the creator and heaven, and the peoples of the Darkness who were tempted by the evils of the fallen ones. Inevitably there was a great war that destroyed much of the world. After the war had ended and the dust that settled there was a great period of peace and conflict. Over time, kingdoms and empires again rose to power and fell just as quickly. Some kingdoms became extraordinarily skilled in the Magical arts. Others developed incredible technologies almost comparable to that of the present. It was during this time that a great battle for destiny was fought.
The Empire of Vandastala reigned over an entire continent. Their power was greater than any other in the world. They were an empire of technology. Extraordinary technology such as had never been seen. With their mighty war machines, the Empire spread its influence everywhere. In addition, the mages of the Empire constantly studied forbidden destructive magic to use upon their enemies. Emperor Dardrake would stop at nothing to advance his power, including making deals with the devil. The fallen ones quietly worked through Dardrake and his empire, patiently planning their revenge. Opposing him was a loose assortment of kingdoms.
One kingdom that remained neutral at the time was the Kingdom of Alanista. In a small town called Medran within the borders of Alanista lived a young boy that the prophecies foretold would defeat the empire and the forces of darkness. The boy’s name was Darsic Averison, and at the age of 12 he left home to go to the academy of the sword in the capital of Alanista.
When one year later he returned to his home, he found it lying in ruins. Desperate, and seeking vengeance, he set of in search of the destroyers of his hometown. He soon learned that the Empire had invaded Alanista and burned down Medran. The armies of the empire were advancing towards the capital of Alanista, so Darsic, who had trained well at the sword academy, rushed off to fight the empire.
On the way, he came upon another ruined town that was still burning. Imperial soldiers were still going through the unburned houses and killing anyone they found. Darsic saw a girl trying to fend off a soldier. The rest of the girl’s family had also been murdered and in Darsic’s rage, he fought and killed the soldier.
After having rescued the girl, whose name was Salora Auridant, Darsic convinced Salora to help him avenge their families deaths. Darsic had been wounded in the fight, and Salora healed him with the healing energies of mana. Mana was a form of healing light magic that Salora had learned from her mother, the village healer and a priestess of the Church of Light.
Thus, with Darsic and his fighting talents, and Salora with her knowledge of healing, this unlikely pair went through many adventures and trials before finally reaching the Emperor himself in the Imperial capital of Braxzandor. Although Darsic slew the emperor, he was not able to prevent the emperor from activating his most terrifying weapon: A device that took all the powers of elemental magic and distorted them to chaos, unleashing devastating waves of destruction in all directions.
In absolute desperation and panic, Salora uttered an ancient prayer that had long been thought forgotten, which called upon the powers of divine intervention. Finally, the creator had no choice but to intervene. He froze all elemental magic in a chilling ice age that destroyed all the great cities and nations. All the science and technology was lost in an instant. In the end all magic was removed from the face of the Earth in order to save the people still living. After the ice age would come what we would call recorded history. And that is why there is no more magic in the world.
