Improvised Melee or Thrown Weapon Type Damage
Sometimes melee or thrown weapons not crafted to be used in a certain way can still be used in that manner. Because such weapons are not designed for this use, any creature that uses one in combat takes a penalty on attack rolls made with that weapon and deals less damage with the weapon (see table). Such an improvised weapon scores a threat on a natural roll of 20 and deals double damage on a critical hit.
Original Type | Improvised Type | Attack Roll Penalty | Damage Penalty |
Slashing | Piercing | -2 | 1/2 |
Piercing | Slashing | -2 | 1/2 |
Slashing | Bludgeoning | -4 | 1/2 |
Piercing | Bludgeoning | -4 | 1/4 |
Bludgeoning | Slashing | -6 | 1/8 |
Bludgeoning | Piercing | -6 | 1/8 |
